Gyotaku Fish Print Workshop (w/ Bruce Koike)
We will have fish for you...OR you can bring in your own fish to print! (both saltwater and freshwater species). Please keep in mind, prints will be made on 12" x 18" paper. Approx. 8 prints (consider baitfish + large fish)! Therefore, fish should not be longer than 14" in length.

What is Gyotaku one might ask... gyo(fish) -taku(print). It is a traditional Japanese method of screen-printing with fish.
On Monday, March 6, 2023 - BASC will be hosting master artist, Bruce Koike! Spots are first come first serve.
SPOTS ARE SECURED BY FULL REGISTRATION TO THIS EVENT.
Bruce has been perfecting this style of art since 1985. Originally from San Diego with a background in science, aquariums, and commercial fisheries, he now resides in Newport, OR enjoying hosting these workshops all over the country while catching commercial Lingcod off his personal vessel in Oregon.
Spots will be limited to 12 people per workshop.
Generally, gyotaku workshops in similar settings will cost $150-300 (with larger class sizes...). All materials and supplies needed will be provided.
Bruce exhibits his artwork at science conferences and an occasional art festival. Bruce has worked as an animal husbandry specialist at several aquariums, providing care to fishes and invertebrates. He also directed the Aquarium Science Program at an Oregon community college and served as that college’s Interim President. He resides in Newport, Oregon with his fish-tolerant wife, Mary.
“This is a hands-on technique-focused learning activity, so come with a spirit of adventure”. Class size is limited to 12 individuals to allow for significant 1:1 interaction with the instructor.

You can bring in your own fish to print! (both saltwater and freshwater species). Please keep in mind, prints will be made on 12" x 18" paper. Therefore, they should not be longer than 14" in length.
*(FLYER NOTES) If caught same day; make sure you bring it dried (just the surface of the fish) by wrapping it in paper towel sheets covered with saran wrap. If previously frozen, ensure you've thawed it and followed the same drying methods.
